Following the Dinosaur Ways on Kamenjak

In March 2010 the Public Institution of Kamenjak has started building an educational trim path named „Following the Dinosaur Ways on Kamenjak“. The path is on the right side of the protected peninsula, merely 300 meters from the entrance. Don't worry about not knowing the direction, because Grako – our little dinosaur – will take care of that. The path is around 600 meters long and is consisted of dinosaur models in actual sizes, and it ends at the shore of Cape Grakalovac (near the Pinižule Cove). There, on the flat rocks, you can find actual fossilized steps of the dinosaurs that used to walk here on Kamenjak.

The path can be visited exclusively on foot or by bicycle. Besides the story of dinosaurs and other Kamenjak creatures from the Cretaceous age, enjoy the silence of the untouched nature and it's wonderful fragrances. We kindly ask the visitors not to touch the dinosaur models, because they are beind damaged that way, and we wish our future visitors will also have an opportunity to enjoy the extra contents of Kamenjak, no matter how „scary“ they are.

On this path you can find: amonit, rudist, small and a bigg terapod. Along the path there are correlative signs describing interesting geological facts in Italian, English and German. We recommend parking in the turning place for Polje/Pinižule and taking a little walk – you won't regret it!

Fenoliga – the island of dinosaurs

On the southern side of Fenoliga island there is one of the richest sites of dinosaur foot prints in Europe – over a hundred foot prints have been identified. Most of the prints is grouped in paths, therefore it’s easy to follow the direction of dinosaurs. Through the expert analysis of the foot it’s been established that the prints belong to a quadrupedal dinosaur from the Sauropod group, and approximately it was 3 meters long, 1.5 meters high and it weighted 150 kilograms.

A visit to island Fenoliga is possible only by boat, and a swim to the island is very dangerous because of the strong sea currents. The Public Institution of Kamenjak organizes transport to Fenoliga during the summer. Departure is by arrangement from the Polje cove.

Porer Lighthouse

An impressive photo motif of Kamenjak waters is definitely the Porer Lighthouse. As it was built in the 19th century, it faithfully represents the Austro- Hungarian architecture of the coastal areas. There are two lighthouse keepers that alternate every fortnight. Besides the glowing, Porer also plays a sound, but only during the fog.
